SafeRacks Garage Lift Storage Rack

I installed two of the 4' x 8' Lift Racks above my 16' wide garage door.

About 3 hours trying to figure out where the ends of the platform would pass and not collide with my garage door rails and parts. After that, assembly was easy, about two hours to assemble and hang each rack. My wife helped hold each completed rail up against the ceiling while I attached the other end. Her involvement total was about 10 minutes for each rack. I needed two ladders, one for each of us.

This is a very nice product. I wish I had room to install two more, but I need the headroom to maneuver lumber for woodworking projects.

My experience & suggestions:

My garage ceiling is textured, so using a stud finder was not working for me.

I got in the attic and drilled two small holes on each side of the rafter I was connecting to at each end. Coming back below, I snapped a chalk line between the holes to mark the center of the rafter to run the lag bolts into.

I found the instruction booklet very clear to read and numerous color pictures easy to understand. Several of the parts have a plastic insert that is intended to remain in the part during assembly. One of those inserts was rotated 90 degrees and it was not possible to mate the two parts together. I tried removing the insert and turning it 90 degrees but it wouldn't come out without damaging it so I eventually trimmed the plastic and drilled out the plastic for the bolt to pass through and it…
